Waldorf Worldwide
The Sarasota Waldorf School educates the whole child with a curriculum designed
to help each child develop clarity of thought, balance in feeling and initiative
in action. With over 150 established schools in North America and over 1000
worldwide, Waldorf schools are committed to the intrinsic principles of education
developed by Dr. Rudolf Steiner, an Austrian educator and philosopher who founded
the first Waldorf School in Stuttgart, Germany in 1919. These principles hold
that childhood is sacred; children learn easily and naturally when a curriculum
meets their specific developmental needs; children’s imaginations must
be nurtured and protected from the encroachment of materialism and media; and
that education must address the whole child—the physical, social, emotional,
artistic and spiritual capacities.
“
Receive the child in reverence, educate the child in love, let the child
go in freedom” –Rudolf Steiner
At the Sarasota Waldorf School these principles are brought to life by a
qualified, warm and competent faculty, and by the broad and deep curriculum.
In our classrooms, teaching becomes a lively art and learning is a dynamic
process engaging the child’s intellect, emotions,
and drive for meaningful and practical work. The children’s ethical
values and pro-social behaviors are nurtured through exemplary role models,
seasonal,
spiritual celebrations and a curriculum that develops a sensitivity and respect
for the natural world. Imagination is supported through age-appropriate learning
activities in the kindergarten and grades, building the true foundation for
independent, creative and critical thinking in adolescence.
Many schools and systems of education purport similar principles and strive
for similar goals. Working together with your family, Waldorf education and
the Sarasota Waldorf School will provide the necessary tools to meet these
important goals, and will educate your child-- head, heart and hands.
Come and see for yourself how Waldorf education works with the whole child
and builds a lifetime love of learning!
