Admissions Process 2008-2009
Getting Acquainted
Sarasota Waldorf School is supported by tuition, fundraising, and by gifts to the Annual Giving from alumni, parents, faculty, and friends of the school. We work through our tuition assistance program to make Sarasota Waldorf School accessible to students from diverse economic backgrounds.
A visit to the school is the first step towards making an application for enrollment. Open house events, including Waldorf Alive! A Walk Through the Grades, begin in October, allow parents to view samples of student work, meet faculty members and ask questions. Individualized visits may be arranged by contacting the respective teacher through the school office.
Application Process
- Interested families are encouraged to visit the school during an open house event and meet informally with a faculty member.
- A written application including previous school records and application fee is required. Once this is completed, an interview between the parent and teacher, a one-to-five-day visit by the child (grades students only) if deemed necessary, and a meeting with the child will be scheduled. Additional documents may be requested as needed.
- All children will be assessed to insure readiness for grade school. The admissions committee will notify your family of application status in writing.
- Acceptances are generally made within three weeks following the completion of the application process.
- For classes that are full, the school maintains a waiting list. To be placed on this list, applicants must submit a completed application form, application fee and registration fee upon acceptance.
Enrollment Procedures
- All required enrollment paperwork must be filled out completely, and submitted to the office by the deadline(s) listed in the acceptance letter.
- A registration fee and necessary payment plan information must be completed and submitted to the office by the deadline(s) listed in the acceptance letter.
- Following acceptance, a home visit may be scheduled. This visit enables the teacher, child, and family to become better acquainted. It is also an opportunity for the teacher to gain valuable insight into the child’s world, thereby closing the gap between “home” and “school.”
Applications are due February 14. Rolling admissions will be considered on a space available basis.
