Parent-Child Circle

ShellyThe Sarasota Parent/Child Program:

fosters a community of warmth and support for parents, and an atmosphere of joy and respect for young children between the ages of one and three-and-a-half.

Children are provided with playthings from the natural world, and simply made toys that allow and encourage the use of imaginative play. A nurturing play environment is fostered where parents are engaged in meaningful activities. Special attention is given to supporting your child's interests, motor development, social interactions and problem-solving skills. The morning includes nursery rhymes, lap games, finger plays, simple songs and stories. A simple snack is shared.

The parents are offered a peek into their own child’s interactions in a group setting, as well as observations of other children in the same age range. The program provides an example of a rhythmic, structured morning, along with songs and finger plays that they may wish to incorporate into the routines of family life. The classroom environment offers examples of simple toys that they can make for their children, as well as stories and activities appropriate to small children and the time of year. An introduction to the Waldorf philosophy is provided through articles and opportunities for adult education through the school.

The Parent-Child Circle meets on Mondays. Two session times are available, Mondays from 9:00-11:00 am, Fridays from 9:00-11:00 am. Three 10 week sessions are held during the school year. Miss Connie provides parents with simple handwork projects using natural materials to engender a nurturing play environment for the children.
